STEM
STEM 1- NO PREREQUISITES
Focuses on App Creation and Robotics. App Creation uses an online coding program to complete tutorials and small projects to learn the coding process. It culminates in a project where students create an app from scratch and present it to the class. Robotics begins with learning gears, gear ratios and how to assemble gears to perform functions. Using this knowledge, students complete a series of hands-on projects using VEX Kits. Lastly, this course moves into online robotic programming. This course is a group project based class: teamwork, good communication and attendance are important.
STEM 2 - NO PREREQUISITES
Focuses on Energy and the Environment, Green Architecture and Flight and Space. Energy and the Environment touches on energy use, heat transfer and alternate forms of energy. It includes a windmill project and a “save the penguins' igloo project. In Green Architecture, students learn drafting, how to create floor plans, and put together models. It continues by focusing on the use of green building materials, passive solar heating and other energy conserving building practices. Students engage in several building projects both group and individual. Light and Space focuses on forces needed in flight and space travel. Projects include studies in airplane wing design and “rocket” fuel. This course is a group project based class: teamwork, good communication and attendance are important.
